The Scenic Route!

Today I had a transfer to do to Geneva Airport. On the way there I took the speedy toll road between the lakeside cities of Annecy and Geneva to make sure everyone got their planes on time! On the way back though I decided to take the toll free road that runs close to the motorway for a bit more of an interesting journey!
Well, that was the plan... until I started following diversions for Annecy. I'm not sure why I couldn't go on the normal road but I was directed into the back of beyond! This was the mother of all diversions, about 60km out of the way of where I wanted to be. Once I stopped panicking, I started to really enjoy the journey. The route took me through some tiny French villages (with a few games of boules going on), through open farmland with ditches seperating the fields and through rolling countryside! I was stuck behind a muck trailer on more than one occasion and to be totally honest it made me think of home! I'm from the Scottish Borders, so as you can see from the photos above, the countryside is very similar - the only difference being that cars are on the other side of the road and in the villages we play bowls instead of boules!

Oh dear, you would have been diverted due to work taking place on the 'Pont de la Caille' bridge/road, between Geneva and Annecy. It closed on March 23rd and apparantly is supposed to remain closed till December, eeekkk! Guess it's best to take the pricey peage! Nice change though I guess!
